DIY Remedies for the Softest Skin and Shiniest Hair While Staying Home

Nobody likes being put under forced isolation. But the situation outside is so hazardous, that the best thing to do is stay indoors for your own and everyone else’s safety. But staying indoors 24 hours without venturing out can be damaging to your skin and hair, especially after your skincare and haircare products run out of stock.

But worry not, we’re here to help you out like a know-it-all older sister. We bring with us some of the best, tried and tested tips to maintain the health and beauty of your skin and hair, even under isolation, with items that can be easily found in you home.

For Face

Honey

Honey blocks the loss of moisture and retain it in your skin for a long time. It also has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which can help prevent breakouts on your skin surface. Apart from that, your skin doesn’t wrinkle and looks glowing and youthful instantly.

Honey can be applied directly to the facial surface. All you have to do is to clean your face and dampen the skin first, apply the honey evenly across the face and massage it gently for a few minutes. Leave for a few minutes more and then simply wash it off using mildly warm water.

Aspirin

Yeah, you read that right. Aspirin, the medication commonly used to relieve pain, fever, and inflammation, can also be used as a product to get rid of pimples on your skin. No, you don’t have to ingest it, but apply it on the affected area of the skin directly. Here’s how:

Crush a capsule or tablet and add a few drops of water to it. Make it into a paste and apply it on the pimple using a tiny cotton swab or earbud tip. Wash it off after some time. Because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, aspirin can unclog the pores, reduce the swelling and further smoothen that part of the skin.

Cucumber & Yoghurt

So, you cannot step out to visit the spa? Bring the Spa home with just two ingredients from your refrigerator: Cucumber and Yoghurt. Give your face a refreshing treat with this DIY mask, which moisturises, soothes, smoothens skin and reduces puffiness. Blend a thinly sliced cucumber with two tablespoons of plain yoghurt for 15 seconds, until a smooth looking puree is formed. Take it out in a container and cool it in your refrigerator for some time. Apply it on your skin as a thin layer of mask and let it stay for 15 minutes. Why not relax to this soothing playlist as the mask does its job. Later, rinse it off using cool water and pat your face dry (DO NOT RUB).

Banana

Applying a banana mask to your face helps in lightening the blemishes on the skin and makes soft and glowing. Enriched with Vitamins A, B, C, E and potassium, your skin remains healthy and hydrated. Plus, it is very easy to make and apply.

Take a ripe banana and mash it along with two tablespoons of milk. Apply the mixture evenly across your face and let it rest for some time. Wash it off later and rub ice all over your face. Do this once or twice a week for a naturally glowing skin, without using any products.

And if that sounds like too much work, you can also get the job done by using this Aroma Cleanse Clay & Herbal Mask hydrating and cleaning mask by Decleor, which is made from plant and herbal extracts such as chamomile, ginseng and clay.

For Hair

Onion

Combat hair thinning and breakage and nourish your hair follicles with a DIY hair mask made with onion juice. Rich in sulphur and antioxidants, onion juice helps in slowing down the ageing process of hair and hence prevents premature greying. It further helps reduce dandruff as it improves the blood circulation in your scalp.

And it is a very simple process, just grind a medium-sized onion and squeeze out the juice. Apply it on your scalp using a soft cotton swab and then massage gently using your fingers and spread it on every strand of hair. Let it do its job for the next 30 minutes and wash it off using a shampoo, preferably a mild one.

Eggs

Achieve soft and silky hair without using any expensive hair treatment product using something as common as eggs. The yolk is especially known to give hair a great volume and assist in hair growth.

You can either apply it directly to your scalp or add a tablespoon of olive oil to the mixture of 3 egg yolks. Apply it to your scalp and leave it for at least 12 minutes. Rinse it off thoroughly with mild and fragrant shampoo. Do it once a week for a naturally conditioned and voluminous hair.

Of course, if all else fails, we suggest this powerful Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Mask to rid your hair of dryness and frizz.

So no more worrying about your hair and skin getting dull and damaged while being locked down in your house. No more worrying if you cannot step out to buy your stock of hair and skincare products. Just use the above home remedies or products to keep your skin and hair healthy and beautiful.
